RETREATS

Individuals

You can book the Hermitage as a base for a day retreat or a place to stay and self-cater. If you just need to get away or to spend time free of distractions, you are most welcome here. Spiritual support is also available by arrangement including an Ignatian Guided Retreat. The accommodation is designed for an individual retreat; there is a second bed so that a couple can stay. We provide (single) duvets and blankets, but not bed linen or towels. The Hermitage is all-electric with a meter that takes £1 coins – in winter it would typically take £3 per day. The small kitchen has a two ring electric hob and a microwave oven. There is a fridge freezer, kettle and toaster.

We say prayers in the house at around 9.15 most mornings using a simple ecumenical liturgy from the Iona Community. You are welcome to join us if you wish.

A recent visitor sent us the following reference:

“The Hermitage and Reflection Garden was everything I had hoped for – and more – as a venue for a few days of peaceful retreat. I have really appreciated the silence and comfort of the Hermitage: it is the perfect space for reading, resting and prayer. I have enjoyed time with nature by walking in the local countryside and been challenged and enriched by journeying through the five reflection gardens. Their power and creativity evoke a deep and inspiring sense of your care for God’s creation.”

We do not have a fixed charge for retreats so that no-one is excluded on grounds of cost. If you are able, you can make a donation to the charity we set up to fund our work – The Rivendell Trust s/c 40-43-36 a/n 61558986. Gift Aid envelopes are available. Or you can offer to help in the garden.

Groups

The main room in the Hermitage is available to book as a meeting room or a base for a day retreat by a group. The maximum size of group would be 12 -14; we can accommodate larger groups by arrangement.

If you wish, we can help to design and run a Quiet Day or you are free to arrange your own programme. The gardens are a resource for all our guests – if you plan to use them for part of your programme, we recommend you visit beforehand.

The Hermitage has a small kitchen for making hot drinks; you will need to bring food if you wish to have a meal, or to use one of the three nearby pub restaurants.

We also welcome visits, by arrangement, from groups using the Beaudesert Park Campsite, to use the gardens as part of their programme, to reflect on aspects of spiritual journey and environmental issues.
